I spent my Canada Day doing something very Canadian...
Took the gf and her daughter camping on a small private island. After a skytrain, bus, two ferry boats and a 2.4km hike up and down a mountain carrying nearly 200lbs (ladies cant carry that much) the four days camping starting with Canada Day made it feel great to be a Canadian.
Plus got to get my legs in tip top shape for this weekends' big game. I certainly wont be carrying that much gear on the field, i'll feel like a bunny rabbit lol

I spent my Canada Day completing the finishing touches to my post-course assignment for a Company Officers Course I attended with the Georgian Bay Fire Service. At 1315hrs a communication page came from dispatch requesting that crews man the apparatus as part of the repatriation of Private Andrew Miller’s remains while enroute on Hwy400 north to Sudbury.
Pte. Andrew Miller, 21, was attached to a unit that was on its way to deal with a mine that had been found in the doorway of a home when the vehicle he was in detonated an improvised explosive device. Pte. Andrew Miller was a medical technician attached to the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group. The incident occurred at 11 a.m. on Monday, 28 June 2010 about 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City.
What began as a simple show of respect for a man, whose life had been dreadfully cut short in the service of others, became something more for my crew, myself and the thick traffic heading north to cottage country. As we stood, in uniform alongside our apparatus on the Whitefalls Rd overpass overlooking Hwy 400 awaiting the caravan; we were struck by the Patriotism shown by our fellow Canadians. We weren’t sure if was the ‘Big Red Fire Trucks’, the emergency lights, the two crews of fire fighters lining the bridge, or the Canadian flag we were proudly flying. But, most vehicles honked, waved, flashed their lights, or did all three. There was a feeling of unity on that bridge that I have never felt before. These strangers were travelling at 110+kmh and for the brief second, almost a blink of the eye we were proud Canadians, joined together on this Provincial Highway.
Pte Miller’s caravan passed as we stood at attention, saluting the hearse; only those in view truly understood why we were there. The cars that had passed earlier may have understood why we assembled on that bridge or they may have assumed that the Georgian Bay Fire Department was stimulating the patriotism of the public. Regardless, the outcome and feeling was mutual; today we are all Canadians. This Canada Day I SALUTE all Canadians and wish you all the best in health, family, and finances. May we never forget the Freedom, we enjoy that was fought so hard for by those before us and those in battle today.
Happy Canada Day. Section 8, out.
