OPERATION OVERLORD

Hey everyone

So the rumors have been flying around and operation overlord is back on for june 23rd and 24th 2012..

this has been one of the best games I have ever played in bc and one of the most incredible fields with onsite camping and vendors this makeds for one of the greatest paintball weekends this side of the boarder.. and with the new two day format its sounding like it will be better than ever..

As the Allied General I was hoping to recruit some of you fine cspo ladies and gentlemen to help lead the allied team to victory..

Sounds fun where abouts is it

Sounds fun where abouts is it?

Way out in Grand Forks BC

Way out in Grand Forks BC

It's about a 10 hour drive from Vancouver

The terrain is absolutely incredible and I do hope that they can get a decent Vancouver area contingent out. Although the last Overlord game had a lot of serious problems that really turned off the Vancouverites, ranging from referee calls bordering on the strange (calling the game for the axis because the allies sounded too angry and it was scaring them) to the infuriating (game organizers stomping around the allied camp trying to force grown adults to go to bed) to the insane (Spencer Moase had a player flip his mask off and choke him mid game in view of a referee, and all the referee said when he complained that nothing was done was that they would 'introduce a no-touch rule next year')

The people who put on the game are a great group of people if it is the same group of Boundary Paintball Organizers, but I do certainly hope if they get a chance to entertain the Vancouverite crowd that they can put on a good show and truly impress. Vancouverites are used to really well polished and organized events put on by operators who do this several times per year (such as Panther, MRPB and TPG) so those glaring weirdnesses really put a lot of people off (never even in rough-and-tumble Surrey have I heard of someone getting choked in the middle of a game by an enemy player)

They put an awesome amount of work into these games, right down to giving the generals pippets to assign to their officers for ranks (ie. LT, captain, etc) to place on their shoulders for differentiating point scores to binders for each team outlining maps, objectives, rules, and info about the game.

It is a true scenario game in the finest of aspects. Their heart is most definitely in the right place. Execution however is more of a challenge when they have referees and organizers who dont do events on this scale very often.

yes way out in grandforks

yes way out in grandforks sort of its actually closer to greenwood then grandforks and its only a 7 hr drive from Squamish so it should be even less from van area either way yes its a road trip but one well worth it..

There has been some problems in the past yes I agree with that but there is at any event. As for what happend with spencer moase that was a bad scene and in deffence of the reff and staff the reff wasnt in plain view he was actually quite a ways a way and more would have been done if spencer could have recognized the player who attacked him as the rcmp were called in and the player that I and several others saw during the altercation was asked to leave and never return to any future event I was there with the group asking him to pack up!!

As for the axis getting the win because the allied team was to scary I dont know where you heard that one from as I have played every operation overlord and that has never happend actually the axis team has yet to win an operation overlord!!

This year the game is being put on by new organizers and has a new format and will be run over 2 days.

you should come out this year mr c and check it out for your self you'll have a blast..

sounds fun im sure whatever

sounds fun im sure whatever happened in the past wont happen again.

Im in if there is some sorta caravan or people want to car pool or something from the lower mainland.

Well if they've brought in

Well if they've brought in some fresh organizers to help and have swapped out the ref teams that sounds great!

Like I said the terrain and location is incredible and while its a really long drive by vancouverites standards (sometimes I have had people whining that tswassen was too far lol) the trip can be fun in and of itself provided your travelling with people you get along with for long periods of time.

I do hope this game is a success and I might even try to make it depending on thr status of my truck or if I can get a ride up there.

Would be nice to see some faces I haven't seen in a long time and to put some rumours to bed face to face. (For some reason us paintballers spread gossip faster than a pack of raging grannies lol)

chewy keep checking the forum

chewy keep checking the forum as we put together a convoy every year and always try and have extras room..

that goes for you to MR. C if

that goes for you to MR. C if you havent gotten your truck figured out by then

Anyone have access to a

Anyone have access to a crummy or a bus? Batman used to have a crummy for cspo road trips and that was some awesome travelling haha good times

CSPO / Chief of Defense Staff National HQ

alright i can pitch in for

alright i can pitch in for gas or whatever when the time comes.

Mr. C if we get the CSPO goin good maybe some sorta passenger van would be a good investment from game revanues. Everyone pitch in some money and then places like the SC or tsawassen (lol) wouldnt be to far for the Vancouverites.

Yeah I've priced out

Yeah I've priced out everything six ways to sideways when I was trying to find a reasonably priced way to get people from out of province to out hired guns games here - from booking whole via rail cars to whole westjet planes.

The most cost effective mode of transport overall is 7 passenger minivans on rental. If your crossing a provincial line they charge you extra per km but as long as you stay within the province its quite reasonable for a weekend or long weekend trip both gas, insurance and rental wise.

While I'd love to have cspo own our own crummy (a 25 passenger short bus) it takes a special kind of license and the insurance is really expensive once you go from std vehicle to people transport, we'd have to have that thing in heavy use just to break even on the insurance and short permits are really expensive (costs me 40 a day for my truck- probably well over a hundred a day for a passenger transport with people in it)

Its kind of sad that it is cheaper to move 63 passengers in a convoy of rented 7 passenger minivans than it is to charter a greyhound bus and stuff them all in the one vehicle rather than 9 rented minivans.

Information?

I'm in, but where can I find more info? I did a quick search and found some olf stuff and an Operation Overlord being held in Edmonton AB.

Mike

that would be a different

that would be a different operation overlord. This operation overlord being discussed is in Grand Forks BC, it is a great location though.

i dont know if they actually have a site dedicated to the game or group itself. they used to funnel most of their information through the bc tac website but with new management and organizers i think that they are just posting stuff in forums about the game as it comes available including here on CSPO via squamishpaintball who has been a long time user here on the site and whom they have selected as the allied general (?)

Hi everyone, I am the Event

Hi everyone,

I am the Event Coordinator for Operation Overlord 2012. I am currently looking into feasibility of this event but so far everything is looking good.

The easiest way to find information about the event is to visit our Facebook page "Operation Overlord Paintball Scenario". This is where we are currently gathering and sharing information as it comes available.

The tentative date is June 23-24, 2012. The location, as mentioned in the above thread, is located just outside Greenwood BC about 6-7 hours from Vancouver.

The game will be different from years past. As a former player, I am well aware of what worked and what didn't in terms of how the weekend worked. My primary concern is player safety and ensuring that they have a positive experience. I know that we've had hundreds and hundreds of great stories from this event in the past and I don't want a few bad ones to ruin it for everyone.

This year it will be a full two day scenario broken into 5 phases. Each phase will include a set of field objectives for both teams as well as several special missions that will be delivered to each commander throughout the scenario.

The field is 60+ acres of dense brush, wooded forest, swampy marshland, and open grass fields. There are buildings, bridges, and paths scattered throughout the field which are incorporated into the list of objectives and missions. In the past, this event has included many special weapons including tanks, mortars, double barrel machine guns, ghillie suits, grenades, rocket launchers, and smoke grenades which are provided by the event organizers.

If you want to keep up-to-date on the event announcements, your best bet is to like our facebook page called "Operation Overlord Paintball Scenario". A website is currently under development which we will launch if I decide to proceed with this game.

If you have questions, feel free to contact me at opoverlord2012@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Glad that a player who experienced some of the frustrations with past games is now in charge. You mention that the location is just outside of Greenwood - is this the same location as previous games or a different spot? It sounds like the same spot by your description of the terrain and bridges.

One question if it is the same spot, will the referees be again deducting random amounts of points from teams for intentionally/unintentionally shooting into the creeks and streams? As I recall that was a truly frustrating experience as with a game of such size it was practically impossible not to end up shooting into the creeks and streams; so some people would get horribly penalized (for ensuring an E-trigger was still activated for example) while others were not penalized at all (someone dumping paint onto a position and balls were obviously gonna land in a creek with the sheer volume of fire).

I recall that was not a constraint put on the players by the organizers but was rather a rule by the landowner.

Also, is BYOP allowed at this event? I cant remember if there was a restriction on paint last time all I remember was that Nelson white fill was the paint for sale. In the name of environmental friendliness, I would recommend that a different type of paint be used as Nelson white fill is very hard on the environment and does not degrade like a lot of other types. Perhaps the paint switch would alleviate the landowner a bit too.

CSPO / Chief of Defense Staff National HQ

Yes, it is the same field as

Yes, it is the same field as the previous events.

All game rules are being reviewed including points assigned for penalties.

With regards to the creek: Obviously some paintballs are going to end up in the creek due to sheer volume of paintballs on the field. With 200+ players, it would be ignorant to pretend that some aren't going to end up in the water. That said, I expect players to avoid dumping entire pods of paint in the creek if you know what I mean.

Running through the creek or jumping over it is not permitted due to concerns by the field owner. He doesn't want the banks to erode as a result of people stepping on the edge of it so we are mandating this rule to accomodate this request. Players caught doing so would be penalized.

To help prevent people from jumping the creek, bridges are located at regular spaced locations throughout the field allowing players to cross the creek when required. Restricting players to use bridges really adds to the flow and action within the scenario because it identifies key obstacles that must be contolled to support/prevent any sort of advance from either team. In past years I've got in some terrific battles defending/attacking a bridge. Imagine valiantly rushing across a bridge through a hail of gunfire to help secure a key objective on the other side. Or imagine denying wave after wave of oncoming opfor as you defend a bridge running low on ammo, waiting for reinforcements. It's awesome...just awesome. That's the kind of situation that this game is all about...players getting into more than just the typical woodsball gunfights. It's those situations that make me want to bring this event back from the dead.

A field map will be posted highlighting the creek location and all possible crossing points. The scenario itself will incorporate some of these bridges.

This is a field paint only event. We will offer different grades all of which will be environmentally friendly.

If anyone has any more specific questions, please feel free to contact me directly at opoverlord2012@gmail.com.

Sounds wicked!

Mr canada, Our squad is really intrested in this. Too bad they dont have a big game like this in ontario :( We are thinking of taking a vacation there in june so we can play. That way we can have Rep from ontario as well as bc. It might just help other teams know that it really is a canadian wide team :)

Diplomatic is saying nice doggy till your sniper gets the range :)

Sounds like my kind of game!I

Sounds like my kind of game!

I'll probably be dragging along my crew and our arsenal in my Volvo but if I end up having seats I'll be sure to be vocal about it.

Whenabouts is it, what costs are we looking at, and where do I sign up?

Command Guard -Mr. Canada -National HQ X/X/X

Well looks like they

Well looks like they certainly are looking to address the problems in former games. That is fantastic.

If the organizers are still taking great care to ensure that the event is family friendly might I suggest an "adults only zone" that's fenced or barricaded off with a bouncer to tun away the under 19s, where the adults can drink and do their thing without these worries of kids intermingling with partying adults. I can see the issue with raucous partying keeping the families awake but I can also see the issue with people who have driven a long way from home wanting to camp and unwind too.

Glad that the shooting into the creek rules are gonna be made more sane. It was tres annoying having people be docked 60 to 600 points for popping a ball into the creek to keep their triggers engaged.

Operation overlord is a go!

Operation overlord is a go!

ahh hardcore paintball

ahh hardcore paintball

I remember their fill station rig.

man that thing is kinda scary but it sure fills as fast as hell. just kinda wish it had a way to fill a bit slower. in 40 degree heat rapid filling a steely makes it so hot you cant hold onto it. those fill systems they have are truly "hard core" lol it filled my 48 3000 in like 2 seconds.

:-)

I'll have to map out Greenwood. I have no idea where on earth that is. It is the same location? Just short of Grand Forks? That lake nearby was a godsend to cool off at
